Rug Making
Our entire Barrier Island Collection of wool striped rugs are hand loomed in India. We employ our own contractor who weighs out the wools, oversees the dying and then gives it to the weavers.
Since a 9×12 hand woven rug is often made by four or five weavers, they sometimes have slight irregularities. This is the nature of the cottage industry. It is important to know that we can only do straight lines in our designs, no curves or circles. All of our rugs are a totally reversible, “double faced” weaving which is very forgiving.
This is an extremely durable, hand-loomed, reversible, wool flatweave. Due to the nature of short staple wool, there may be sprouts, which you simply clip with scissors.
Production times will vary according to the size. Larger wool striped rugs will take longer than smaller ones, so it could be anywhere from 90-120 days to make the final product.
